On Friday 17th June, our Head of Community Development Neetu Squire joined volunteers from the Joules clothing and homeware company in visiting the Woodgate Adventure Playground for a Team Challenge.
The Challenge saw Joules support Woodgate Adventure Playground, a day nursery that provides an array of exciting activities and recreational facilities for young children, by tidying up and organising their main building.
Not even the hottest day of the year could stop the Marketing Team at Joules from giving something back to the wonderful kids and carers at Woodgate Adventure Playground. We thought we had maybe given ourselves a slightly bigger task than the number of hands on deck, but were thrilled to not only finish the job but have such a positive reaction at the finished product. It was a fantastic day to not only be outside and help the local community but also become closer as a team. We certainly will be using Leicestershire Cares again to facilitate a volunteer day as they are so worthwhile and fun!
Emily Crosby-Browne, Executive Assistant & Marketing Admin Coordinator at Joules
This project put into action Leicestershire Cares’ “Power to Change” approach to community development. We aim to build up networks of businesses, community groups, and vital service-providers so that we can respond in a flexible and agile manner to the complex needs of vulnerable and marginalised communities throughout Leicestershire.
The Challenge was organised in preparation for Woodgate Adventure Playground’s “Summer Playscheme”. The scheme sees the Playground remain in operation throughout the holiday period, giving children in the local community a safe space to have fun and spend time with friends while school facilities are unavailable.
Our Team Challenge with Woodgate was a terrific success! The playground’s main building looks set and ready for the summer, and I’m sure the children taking part in the playscheme will have a great time. It’s always a pleasure to support a group that provides such valuable services to their community.
Neetu Squire, Head of Community Development
The Community Development Team is proud of its work in forming connections between businesses and community groups in order to support projects that deliver vital services to our communities. We look forward to strengthening further our relationships with partners from across city and county in order to build a safer, more inclusive Leicestershire where no one is left behind.

I would just like to say how amazing the play building now looks thanks to the wonderful staff of Joules and their hard work on a sweltering day. The children and their families absolutely love the new vibrant colours and design. On behalf of all the staff, committee, volunteers and especially the children of Woodgate Adventure Playground, Id like to say a huge thank you to team Joules and of course Neetu and the whole Leicestershire Cares team.
Stuart Elliott, CEO of Woodgate Adventure Playground
