Employability workshops

What to expect when volunteering at our employability events

We run a highly successful programme of careers based events for students in years 7-11 in secondary schools and colleges across the city and county. Business volunteers deliver bespoke and lively careers talks with students in order to develop their curiosity and get them thinking about the key skills needed to succeed in their future career.

We run Guess my Job and Speedy Speakers sessions which both involve giving up to 200 students a short careers talk:

  • Speedy Speakers involves giving a 10 - 15 minute presentation followed by 5 minutes of Q&A from students.
  • Guess my Job involves up to 10 minutes of an investigative Q&A from the students , a job reveal and short careers talk followed by 5 minutes of further Q&A

This can be in an assembly hall, classroom or delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams. A member of staff from Leicestershire Cares will also give a full briefing on the day of what the session will look like.

You don't need to do any major preparation in advance, if you are happy to talk about your role - just bring yourself, that's all!

Dates for 2024/2035 academic year will be added soon.

If you would like to volunteer please email interviewtechnique@leicestershirecares.co.uk

It was really interesting to see a secondary school (it was a long time since I left!), and how the food industry is seen by younger people as a brand, rather than the whole industry behind it.
