Golden Token is a brand-new youth hub based in the Rowlatts Hill area of Leicester. The area itself is very deprived with very little for the young people to do, resulting in anti-social behaviour. The founder of the youth hub is a young man from the local area who is determined to make a difference.
As part of our Power to Change Project, our Youth and Community Development Officer has been supporting, guiding, and advising on a weekly basis, assisting with paperwork, sourcing funding and employability workshops. These workshops include CV writing and how to be successful when searching for jobs or apprenticeships. In addition, the Power to Change Project has started a multi-media workshop initiative, giving the community the opportunity to learn skills in podcasting, music and film production and editing. As part of these sessions, the young people are learning the importance of good communication and understanding new techniques, whilst gaining self-esteem and confidence.
The Community Development team at Leicestershire Cares have supported Golden Token in other ways providing board games, crafts, and books. We are also very grateful to Reaching People for their amazing donation of 2 laptops. These have made a huge difference and are used by everyone and are being used by those in the community who do not have access to internet and so are at a disadvantage. This is proving to be extremely beneficial.
So far great work has been done and we at Leicestershire Cares will continue to support Golden Token and look forward to supporting through their journey.
