Few weeks ago, a young lady who is visually impaired wandered into our offices at Leicestershire Cares (Jameelah) and stated with great conviction that she wanted to create her own podcast series as she believed that she had something to say to the world and really wants to make a difference in society. This young lady’s passion and determination was so refreshing we could not help but be awe of her and of course the community development teams youth worker and Power to Change project lead said yes, we can help you, after a brief assessment of the young persons needs and abilities, the pair set about planning a podcast mini-series which was titled Jampacked.
Jampacked will consist of 4 episodes on the topics that were close to Jameelah’s heart and things that she believed needed to be spoke about, also in this series Jameelah and our youth worker Aaron decided that it was important to involve other young people to help with filming and recording as well as being guests on the podcast to express their own views on the topics Jameelah has picked to cover and also use the skills and confidence they have gained since they themselves joined the Power to Change project. As well other young people the pair also thought it was important to involve other community groups and businesses who also have a personal stake in the topics that will be covered on the show.
Jameelah and Aaron wasted no time and got straight into the production the following week inviting two guests and one young person and one community member, also with one member of Aarons Power to change content creator group to help with the production of the podcast.
First episode recorded and went perfectly Jameelah expressed a few nerves which was to be expected however Jameelah quickly got over it and excelled on the show.
So, week one went amazingly as did the following three filming sessions which included two business members, two Leicestershire Cares staff and two Power to change youth participants.
