For many young people, the transition from education to employment can be daunting especially when it comes to job interviews. A recent success story from our Youth Justice participants highlights the powerful impact that mock interviews can have in preparing young people for the world of work.
A participant, supported by the Youth Justice team, had already made progress with job searching and felt confident in writing CVs and completing applications. However, she had never experienced a job interview and felt anxious and uncertain about the process.
In response, the Youth Justice team arranged a one to one mock interview session. This gave the young person the chance to practise common questions, receive constructive feedback, and build her understanding of what to expect. The session helped her recognise key areas for improvement and boosted her confidence moving forward.
To further enhance the experience, the team connected with Danielle Young from Nelsons Law, who generously offered to host the participant for a mock interview at their office. This provided a valuable opportunity to experience a professional workplace setting and engage in a realistic interview environment.
Despite initial nerves, the young person performed incredibly well. Danielle was impressed with her preparation, composure, and potential The young person left the experience feeling encouraged, proud, and more equipped for future opportunities.
This example reflects the importance of practical experiences like mock interviews, especially for young people with limited exposure to the world of work. Being able to practise in a safe and supportive environment allows them to develop essential skills and greater self-belief.
With the right support and opportunities, young people can overcome barriers and grow in confidence, Mock interviews offer a crucial stepping stone in preparing them for long term success.

A wonderful young lady and a credit to you both. I’m so glad she enjoyed today and feels boosted now to put herself out there for potential roles. I’ll keep everything crossed for her – she just needs an employer to believe in her like you both do and she’ll be on her way. I have no doubt she’ll be able to secure a role soon.
