The APPG (All Party Parliamentary Group) on Care Experience is supported by Become, a great national charity giving voice to care experienced children and young people. They met in June to mark three years since the Independent Care Review was published by Josh MacAlister, who is now an MP. The Group includes current chair Jess Asato MP and Helen Hayes MP.
Daveena and Tashauna from Leicestershire Cares added their voices to over 25 young people from six different organisations to speak their views to MPs, civil servants and members of the House of Lords.

They talked about the campaign of JUJI for care experience to be treated as a protected characteristic under the 2010 Equality Act in all three local authorities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. They also brought their personal experience of the 'local connection' rules that local authorities have used to restrict care experienced young people's access to housing in their area if different from where they came into care.

Daveena and Tashauna thought it was great to hear everyone’s passion towards positive change and being listened to. They hope that policy makers and MPs do what they say they’re going to do and things progress positively and concerns are acted on.

We look forward to seeing what Parliamentarians do with all the information shared from young people. A key indicator will be increased spending in these areas.
