On the 29th of June, Community spirit was out in full force as young people from Leicestershire Cares joined forces with the Desford Striders running club to deliver a successful Steve Morris 5-Mile Charity Fun Race. Held in honour of the late Steve Morris, a beloved member of the local running community and founder of Desford Striders Running club.
Leicestershire Cares event marshals provided vital support throughout the day, helping to ensure the race ran safely and smoothly. They also assisted in:
- Starting the race, keeping the event on schedule
- Offering positive energy and encouragement to those taking part
- Providing well earned refreshments to the runners to aid their recovery after a challenging course in the glorious sunshine.
- Cleaning up post event, collecting litter and packing up supplies.
This event gave our marshals a different environment to practise their developing skills, and really showed how versatile and adaptable their skill set is becoming.
We are honoured that Desford Strider's have chosen Leicestershire Cares as their club charity this year and we look forwards to supporting future events.
The runners always appreciate cheers from the marshals as it fills them with confidence and motivation. The snack and water stations require some speedy service for the thirsty runners and your guys helped us do this perfectly. They were awesome!

It was a great event for me considering I gave encouragement to the runners during and after the race. I enjoyed the teamwork with the other marshals.
