Launching Our New SEND Interview Preparation Pack

6 Oct 2025

We are delighted to launch our brand-new Employability Interview Preparation Pack, designed especially for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The pack complements our Interview Technique sessions, where, with the help of business volunteers, we conduct one-on-one mock interviews with students. Mock interviews are an important step in preparing young people for their next stage in life, whether that’s further education, training, or the workplace. But for many students with SEND, the idea of an interview can feel overwhelming. This new resource has been developed to make interview preparation accessible, engaging, and confidence-building.

The pack was designed with inclusion in mind, recognising that students may have a wide range of learning styles, communication preferences, and support needs. Through fun activities, clear visuals, and simple guidance, students are supported to:

  • Explore their strengths, interests, and goals
  • Practise talking about themselves in a safe and supportive way
  • Understand what happens in an interview and how to prepare
  • Develop confidence in sharing their skills with others

The pack includes:

  • Games and activities such as chatterboxes, dice rolls, and matching cards to make preparation interactive
  • Communication guidance, reminding students that there’s no “one right way” to express themselves
  • Practice interview questions, from everyday favourites to more work-related prompts
  • Reflection tools to help students think about what went well and how they can improve

By taking part in the activities, students will build their work readiness by understanding what to expect in an interview, while also developing the confidence to talk about their own strengths, skills, and interests. They will learn to recognise the difference between technical skills, such as using technology, writing, or cooking, and social skills like teamwork, listening, and problem-solving. The pack also encourages students to practise communicating in ways that feel natural and comfortable for them, while giving them the chance to reflect on what went well and consider simple next steps for the future.

Every young person deserves the chance to step into an interview feeling prepared, valued, and capable. For students with SEND, the opportunity to practise in a safe, encouraging environment can make all the difference.

This pack helps build the confidence and employability skills that will support them not just in interviews, but throughout their journey into adulthood and the world of work.

We are proud to share this resource with partnering schools, volunteers, and young people across Leicestershire. Together, we can ensure that every student has the chance to shine in their own way, because everyone has skills and strengths worth celebrating.

If you would like to volunteer at one of the Interview Technique sessions please contact Bella, at bella@leicestershirecares.co.uk to get involved.
