Change the Script film nominated at Bigsyn International Film Festival

12 Nov 2025

Leicestershire Cares received a nomination for the film “Change The Script” which shines a light on the experiences of care experienced young people and the need for a change in order to improve the overall outcomes of care experienced young people. This film was funded by the People’s Postcode Lottery, and directed by Casey Francis, through his Mad Truth arts organisation in collaboration with Leicestershire Care’s JUJI Group and Mighty Creatives.

This film was nominated by Bigsyn International Film Festival under the Charity Films category. Leicestershire Cares was therefore invited to attend a film screening and awards night in London. On the 7th of November, the youth justice team accompanied two care experienced participants to London to attend the awards event. Attendees from different organisations were in attendance at this event.

The event was very well organised and commenced with networking and photographs on the red carpet. We then proceeded to the screening room with over 300 guests in attendance. Some of the film categories on the night include:

  • Animation film
  • Ads and CSR film
  • AI and Experimental films
  • Student and young filmmakers
  • Music videos
  • Children’s documentaries
  • Children's animation
  • Ethnic minority and female filmmaker
  • Marginalised UK
  • Charity Films

Proud to represent Leicestershire Cares at the SYN Film Festival. Seeing filmmakers unite for change was truly inspiring what an unforgettable experience.

Although Leicestershire Cares did not win the award in this category, we received a special mention as an acknowledgment of the importance of the central themes evidenced in the film “Change the Script”.

We would like to extend our gratitude to our former colleagues Aidan Croughwell-Burton, Krishna Kothari, and Paul Whalley for their work with the JUJI group which manifested in the production of this film.
