The challenge was to clear a patch of land, to enable it to be laid to turf. Once the turf is laid the area will be used for activities, crafts, sports and youth sessions. The five enthusiastic volunteers from Samworth Brothers cleared rubble, roots and brambles from the area. Under the guidance of Buzzing Roots volunteer Johnathon. The ground was very hard and dusty and it was a really hot day, but they got the job done.
Buzzing Roots is a Community Interest Company, dedicated to helping communities use their creativity to explore the culture of the built environment and make a positive impact on their lives and the lives of others. They connect people with local cultural and environmental spaces.
Established in June 2020, the organisation works with adults, young people, families, schools, creative practitioners, cultural organisations and local authorities to support community growth, network-building and provide a space for the community to grow and learn
Wheatland Road Gardens began as a community project on a former garage site. Over 20 years ago, a few passionate community members transformed it into a flourishing green space where people gathered, planted, and connected. For years, it thrived under their care, but as time passed, those who once tended it grew older and could no longer maintain it. Gradually, the garden was overtaken by weeds, suffered vandalism, and became a dumping ground. Left neglected for over a decade, it faded from memory. Recently, we rediscovered this hidden gem and, alongside Leicester City Council and local residents, are excited to bring Wheatland Road Gardens back to life.
Thank you so much for finding all these amazing people that come in and helping. It's much appreciated.

We will really enjoy seeing the progress on the site and will hopefully come back in the future to help out
