The Altogether Now Project, funded by Henry smith works with young people with SEND taking steps towards outcomes of education, employment and training, as part of this journey we work on developing skills such as team work, confidence building, independent travel and social communication.
Last week some of our young people put their newly acquired skills of independent travel to good use and made the bus journey in to town for a trip to Treetops Crazy golf. This social setting provided them with time to have fun, explore new social interactions and build new friendships. They worked together as a team to help everyone negotiate their way around the courses and truly exercised their skills in perseverance. The group offered words of encouragement and motivation for those of us who's crazy golf skills are still developing and celebrated each others achievements, including our incredible 7 "hole in one's"!
These activities are invaluable and not only help to build the foundations skills that young people need in their transition in to the work place, but gives them time to build connections and experience peer to peer support.
I really enjoyed it, I was a little nervous meeting people for the first time but everyone was really friendly and we had lots of things in common. I'm really please I came along.
