T.K was referred to the Phoenix programme for support with guidance with accessing suitable training. During his initial assessment, T.K expressed that his primary desire was to obtain financial freedom. Although he had previously worked in warehouses, T.K was keen to gain access into a career path that would provide him with flexibility and the relevant finances to establish a legitimate business in in future.
Over various sessions, T.K confirmed that he would like to work in an office environment where the work is not physically strenuous. We explored various options and we recommended an online CSCS course in the short term and discussed the possibility of a cyber security course to support T.K with acquiring the skills to transition into a career in cyber security.
In order to equip T.K with the knowledge required for the world of work, he was provided with information about the disclosure process. During the disclosure session, we explored the types of DBS checks conducted by employers. Information was also provided on spent and unspent convictions. T.K was provided with useful resources such as a link to the Unlock disclosure calculator as well as a sample disclosure letter. An emphasis was placed on the importance of desisting from committing further offences as well as honesty when disclosing convictions.
T.K also attended a C.V session where an in-depth explanation was provided on how to draft a good quality C.V. The importance of using industry specific buzz words within his C.V and in an interview setting was also explained. T.K was provided with a C.V builder pack and resources to consolidate his learning on how to create C.V’s.
In other to support T.K in reaching his goals, he was encouraged to complete his CSCS course so as to expand his job opportunities. He was also duly enrolled on a cyber security course as well as a CSCS course with Portland Training. T.K was very proactive, he completed his BKSB Maths and English assessment and also quickly completed his CSCS course.
T.K also actively engaged in self-paced cyber security course. He has now completed his training and has obtained his level 2 cyber security certificate. He was also provided with a cyber security road map. In the meantime, T.K has secured a job using his CSCS qualification, and he is now working towards completing his ComPTIA certification which is an internationally recognised cyber security certification. This will enable him apply for entry level cybersecurity roles in future.
