H.W was referred to Leicestershire Cares for ETE support as a participant on the VIP programme. During the initial assessment, it became clear that H.W was very smart and ambitious. In the past, H.W. had obtained extensive experience as an electrician working for his Father, on various housing and rebuilding projects.
As part of the intervention delivery, H.W engaged in a goal setting session in which he clarified that he would like to obtain his CSCS qualification and eventually engage in full time employment or an apprenticeship. A referral was made to the construction hub and H.W was successfully enrolled on the course. As the bright young individual that he is, he understood the course content quickly and was able to support his colleagues. H.W completed his test and obtained his CSCS qualification.
In order to prepare H.W for the world for future employment, he attended a C.V session where his C.V was reviewed and re-written. H.W learned about the correct way to format a C.V. During the session, H.W was able to correctly identify areas of amendment on a poorly formatted C.V which was provided for demonstration purposes. H.W was encouraged to learn about the desired technical tools and relevant buzz words utilised in his desired trade to properly demonstrate his interests, experience, and commitment to his industry.
H.W participated in a disclosure session which equipped him with the correct knowledge around disclosing convictions. Although H.W does not have any convictions, this session helped to reinforce the importance of steering clear of criminality, and it highlighted the difficulties which could occur in relation to insurance, international travel, and securing employment.
H.W also participated in a personal branding and employability day where he had the opportunity to interact with members of the business community as well as other young people. H.W was taught how to stand out by thinking about three words that best describe him. The business professionals explained that this was H.W.’s personal brand.
The session also covered interview preparation session where H.W received professional tips on how to prepare for interviews by researching the company, planning his route, and preparing questions for the interviewers. H.W was also advised to ensure that he was dressed professionally and that his environment was clean and tidy for virtual interviews. H.W learned how to use the STAR or CAR approach when answering interview questions. H.W is scheduled to attend a job search session to empower him to apply independently for jobs.
