Education update June 2021

17 Jun 2021

The remote mock interview events continue to be a big hit with both schools and businesses with our volunteers having the flexibility to interview from their work desk or at home, and students experiencing a new way of having an interview.

Just over 1800 students across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland have now received a mock interview including students from Willow Bank Hospital School, Millgate special school and, most recently, English Martyrs Catholic school: Supporting students with a smile | Leicestershire Cares

Please visit Interview Technique | Leicestershire Cares for a list of upcoming events.

We are also delivering remote employability sessions with schools to help students to better understand the workplace. Our most recent events involved speakers from Everards Brewery and DNV: Helping students understand the workplace during the pandemic | Leicestershire Cares

Careers competition

All the entries for our careers competition have now been received. We will shortly be meeting with our volunteer judges from AllTruck, Hinckley & Rugby Building Society and Everards Brewery to decide the winners. Good luck to all students who sent in an entry! Careers Week Competition | Leicestershire Cares

We were delighted to visit Queensmead Primary Academy with our wonderful volunteers from HRBS to present the winners of our maths challenge with their certificates and new maths games. HRBS kindly donated the prizes. The children were so excited to meet the ‘Pirates’ in real life! Ahoy Number Partners!! The Great Pirate Treasure Hunt Maths Challenge prize-giving | Leicestershire Cares

We recently held two steering group meetings to help us plan the relaunch of Go For Reading and Number Partners in the new academic year: Relaunch and Rebuild | Leicestershire Cares. It was great to see our volunteers and school coordinators to discuss how the projects can support children and young people to overcome the long-term impacts of the school closures.
