We were delighted to host the Rt Hon Priti Patel, the Home Secretary at our office last Thursday.
We met the Home Secretary, along with the Restorative Justice Initiative Midlands and we discussed approaches to preventing and tackling youth crime. We emphasised the importance of having a PCC and VRN that understands and is committed to partnership and prevention and the need to work with young people on personal as well as social challenges. Or as we say Power Within , sort your head and immediate issues, Power With, build connections and social skills and Power To use these skills and knowledge to find work, or get back into education and training.
It was great to see the Home Secretary taking time to listen and being open to new ideas and approaches, such as those developed and delivered by the UP project

It is always a welcome boost for our participants, volunteers and staff when people in positions of power and influence reach out and seek to learn from our grassroots practice.
The Home secretary obviously sees the importance of community, business, local and national government working together and the need for creative and agile partnerships

The meeting was made possible due to the efforts of Rupert Mathews who is the conservative candidate for the upcoming PCC election. We see the post of PCC as a vital way of connecting community and the police and would encourage everybody whatever their political persuasion to vote in the upcoming PCC election on Thursday 6th May 2021.
