In the last term, Leicestershire Cares’ business volunteers have continued to help students learn about different careers and industries through our virtual employability events.
We were delighted to be joined by Stephen Gould, Managing Director of Everards Brewery, and Kirsty Nelson, Head of Project Controllers at DNV, for a speedy speakers session with students at Limehurst Academy. Both speakers shared valuable advice and tips from their experiences of work, the key ones of which were to take opportunities as they arise, do what you enjoy and be kind.
The presentations were pitched perfectly with insight into the real human skills we need to make our careers work such as resilience, curiosity and kindness. I think students will now understand that everyone that works hard and grasps opportunities will be rewarded not just the naturally academic high flyers.
Limehurst Academy
We also ran an enterprise day session with students at Leicester High, where Alexandra Revil from DNV shared her career and experience of working in the STEM sector. Students were then tasked with designing an eco-friendly form of transport and presenting this to Alex, who judged the best design. We were very impressed with how imaginative and well thought-through all of the entries were!
As students have missed out on so many opportunities to gain work experience and meet employers, these events are more important than ever. We would like to thank our business volunteers for giving their time to help the next generation get a head start in their career.
