Conversation about diversity and inclusion

1 Jun 2021

We are thrilled to bring diverse community organisations and Leicestershire Cares staff team together on an experiential learning through lived experiences as part of our diversity and inclusion work.

On a series of conversations, we will have guest speakers from various communities joining our staff to discuss the history, needs and challenges faced by their communities as well as cultural awareness when working in partnership with African, Asian, Afro Caribbean and East European communities.

These discussions will explore and identify ways in which team members can engage with and learn from local communities in a culturally competent way.

Our first conversation was about the Somali community in Leicester, delivered by Farhiyo the CEO of Women 4 Change. A charity based in Leicester, whose aim is to support and empower local women and young people to access health care, deter young people from criminality and to educate local women on conflict management within families and communities.

All we need is support and empowerment

I really appreciate this and that we are having these meetings in place! I cannot wait for the next ones really hit home
