The Community Development Teams Quarter Successes

8 Nov 2021

The Community Development Team have been very busy connecting businesses, communities, and local government, with a recent visit from our MP Liz Kendall, listening to the issues, challenges and barriers of a community group based in New Parks. This has had a great impact on the stakeholders as they felt their voices were being heard and what was needed to make a greater impact for the community moving forward.

We have continued to support local food banks and develop more community libraries within the city providing them with free access to reading books with contributions from other communities, councillors, and businesses.

Sports equipment was also delivered to 6 different community groups over the summer to keep children active and to engage in positive activities.

275 people from 5 different communities attended a trip to Skegness with 33 different nationalities attending with many seeing a British beach for the first time.

A Holiday Hunger scheme delivered 9,500 pack lunches to 4,750 disadvantaged families. 4 business members volunteered 192 hours over a 6-week period. Thank you to the businesses who supported the scheme and dedicated their time to help.

We have been connecting Leicester college with other charitable organisations to provide them with work placements that will enable them to get more support.

We also supported a sports co-ordinator to deliver a 5-week programme to disadvantaged children over the summer in the Beaumont leys area and 50 disadvantaged children and children with disabilities in the Belgrave community.

We have also organised 3 Diversity and Inclusion webinars that have been delivered to our staff at Leicestershire Cares from the Somali, Polish and Caribbean communities.

And most importantly it was an honour to celebrate our business members for their time, dedication, and continued support to the Community Development team and Leicestershire Cares especially through these challenging times.

So, a huge thank you to them from us!

In the coming quarter with the launch of our #BagsOfHope campaign, we would love to have as much support as we received last year and reach out to as many disadvantaged families and children who are in danger of being left behind this festive season. We have also launched our Festive Challenges which we hope many of our businesses will get involved and turn despair into hope for many other charitable organisations who need a little cheer this year.
