Volunteers from engineering firm Terex Pegson based in Coalville spent a day supporting a local day centre called Hope House, based in Griffydam.
Terex design and build crushing machines, predominantly used in aggregates extraction and material processing. They have been members of Leicestershire Cares for 3 years and in that time have carried out essential environmental work at Sence valley Country Park and revamped the garden at Coalville Surestart Centre, as part of their commitment to Community Development.
Hope House provides essential day care, a few hours respite and pastoral support for local people with a long-term health problem, life limiting illness or disability. A warm welcome, emotional support, complementary therapies, activities and a nutritious hot two course lunch is provided a couple of days a week. Whilst the charity, Hospice Hope, began in 2002, supporting local people at four weekly support cafes in Ashby, Coalville, Ibstock and Donington, Hope House in Griffydam has been open since 2017. The extensive gardens and orchard are a sanctuary to the visitors who use the centre each week. However, access to these areas has not been the easiest. Now with the invaluable help of Terex, a path has been created so people of all abilities can enjoy the facilities.
Just to say a very big thank you to you and your team for the sterling work you did on the orchard path on Tuesday. It was a really good day. Your team got stuck into the task and the end result is exactly what we wanted. Please convey my thanks and gratitude to your management for permitting you to come to us and do this work. It is very much appreciated and will enable us to widen our offering for people with life limiting illnesses who spend the day at Hope House.Peter Last, one of the Trustees for the Charity
