This week Walkers Deli and Sausage Co. who are part of the Samworth Brothers group have been spreading the positive message of how we can we work together to support those that have been adversely affected by the coronavirus crisis.
As coffee shops and restaurants have closed, demand for fresh meat has reduced and rather than stock going to waste Walkers Deli and Sausage Co. were keen to donate their stock to a good cause. We at Leicestershire Cares have been working with various groups across the city and county in their response to the current crisis and were able to support Walkers in distributing 360kg of ham to groups supporting families and individuals who are either self-isolating or in financial difficulty.
St. Matthews Big Local, Goldhill Adventure Playground, Christ the King Foodbank, Age UK, E2 Online and Zinthiya Trust were the recipients of this kind gesture. The ham has been distributed in food hampers and used to make sandwiches which have been delivered to families needing support at this time. Sally Romankiw, Internal Communications and Engagement Officer at Walkers Deli and Sausage said
We are really proud to support as many groups as possible in this difficult time, each of the six groups support different service users and this has allowed our reach to get even further.Sally Romankiw, Walkers Deli and Sausage
These groups along with lots of others, many of which have been set up in recent weeks, are a real lifeline to local communities and are adapting the way they usually work to provide much needed support and assistance.
