Leicestershire Cares supports development of new care leaver resources

18 Apr 2019

Earlier this year, we took part in research with Learning and Work Institute to help them develop new resources aimed at improving care leavers’ access to education, employment and training.

The new resources have just been published and include:

  • An employer leaflet on supporting care leavers and the additional funding available to employers recruiting care leavers as apprentices.
  • A leaflet for care leavers about doing an apprenticeship and the £1000 bursary available to them.
  • A local offer mapwhich provides information about the specific support offered to care leavers by local authorities in England and information about services in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
  • Guidance for foster carers which provides top tips on supporting care leavers to engage with education, employment and training, including information on care leavers’ rights and entitlements to support.

The resources are free to download from Learning and Work Institute’s website.
