Leicestershire Cares' UP and WIRE Project staff and participants came together to meet with staff from the Home office and the PCC. Overall, it was an inspiring afternoon where shared learning and experiences were discussed and our participants were able to highlight the need and importance of flexible projects such as the UP and WIRE projects who deliver holistic support.
Please see below some quotes from our young people:
Before I was referred to WIRE and UP, I was lost and had no guidance. Since working with Siobhan and Rudi I have a better idea of what I want to do in the future. Going on a work placement has given me the confidence to work towards my personal goals, furthermore I have no family or support to guide me and without Siobhan and Rudi I would have taken a very different road to the one I am on now.Hasina, Young Person
Without Siobhan and Rudi I wouldn’t be here, when I was released from prison, I had no accommodation, no benefits in place and a lack of support. I am now housed, in receipt of a regular income and working on my mental health to eventually get into employment.Toiyan, Young Person
I have a deep, traumatic story of which I was able to confidently disclose with the support I received from Siobhan and Rudi. I felt lost, confused and scared as to where my journey would take me. Meeting with both Siobhan and Rudi has changed my life for the better and given me an end goal with a new opportunity working as a peer mentor on the UP Project delivering support to those who may feel like I once did.Jade, Young Person
I have only been known to the projects for a short while, having recently been released from prison I had so many ideas I didn’t know what to do with them. Siobhan and Rudi were able to support me in my decision to do a permanent job as opposed to begin a work placement. I have been successful in a recent job application and I honestly believe without the employability support and emotional support I wouldn’t have achieve this in such a short space of time.Taariq, Young Person
