Volunteers’ food share dig echoes history

Volunteers from truck dealer Ford & Slater helped recreate history when they prepared a vegetable plot for the Braunstone Foodshare scheme last week.   The area at Yennards Farm was the site for a community food system in the early 1850s when surplus crops from the fields were donated to the poor of Leicester city.   The team of 14 Ford & Slater employees prepared a field at Yennards Farm for planting fresh vegetables that will go into ‘stew packs’ for local families and individuals.   The Braunstone Foodshare scheme is supported by B-inspired’s b-connected team....

Staff from the Leicester office of Nelsons Solicitors spent their Sunday (Feb 22) redecorating the teenage unit at an independent charity in Shepshed which supports adults and children with learning disabilities. Three solicitors – Nichola Faith, Emily Weston and Lewis Addison – donned overalls and picked up paintbrushes to support Glebe House as part of the firm’s partnership with Leicestershire Cares. Mud, sweat but no tears as firm digs to a million

When staff from member firm Ford and Slater got their hands very dirty clearing a ditch at the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre they passed a huge £1 million milestone. More than £1 million worth of time has now been donated by employee volunteers since the first Leicestershire Cares Team Challenges in the year 2000 – more than 460 community groups have been helped by 5,500 workers giving 36,000 hours of their time.
