National Grid Volunteers Help to Transform School

Dorothy Goodman School in Hinckley has been given a brand new look – thanks to employees from National Grid. A team of 12 volunteers swung into action to give the Lower and Upper Schools a lick of bright coloured paints.   With perfect weather conditions the team, armed with paint brushes, tackled steps, sheds, a playground area, benches, the huge main hall and other indoor areas.   “Our team really got stuck in and worked hard. The Community Safety project, helping ex-offenders into work, is celebrating a double success with the construction firm Bowmer & Kirkland giving two Leicester men a fresh start in full time paid employment. Family-owned Bowmer & Kirkland has started taking ex-offenders on placements which include mentoring by the firm’s staff and are designed to boost confidence and skills. Celebration Assembly at Holliers!

Lisa Denman, Joe Kirby and Sue Uttley from National Grid in Hinckley, were delighted to receive thank you cards from Holliers Walk School pupils. The team have been volunteering for a combined total of 12 years between them for the Number Partners project. Volunteers were invited along to a Celebration Assembly to receive thanks for being such superb volunteers at the school local to their Hinckley base. Fun and Games at Westfield

On Wednesday 8th October, Westfield Junior School in Hinckley took delivery of a new set of Number Partner games. It was like Christmas come early for the National Grid volunteers who have 14 years’ worth of experience between them! National Grid decorating team transforms hostel with make-over

A hostel for homeless young people has been given a fresh lick of paint by volunteers from the National Grid Hinckley Dispatch Centre. Armed with brushes and rollers, the team of seven decorators tackled the laundry room, kitchen and reception area at Lawrence House in Hinckley on Friday 30 May. The heavily used rooms were last painted two years ago, but needed a make-over. Hinckley Homeless runs Lawrence House which allows  12 single homeless people, of either sex, aged between 16 and 25 to stay for up to a year.
