Nathan was referred to the Community Safety project at the start of this year. He had not worked since 2010, but in an interview stated, “I want to change my life. I want to support my kids and be a good father”.  Work placement options were discussed with Nathan and he was keen to develop his skills to gain a construction qualification to work on building sites. Partnership between Leicestershire Cares and local construction firm

When an ex-offender embarked on a four-week work placement with local construction firm Stepnell organised by Leicestershire Cares, he little knew how it would transform his life.  Thanks to that placement a year ago, 32-year-old Olson Murrain – who lives in Highfields, Leicester – has a steady, full-time job with Stepnell as a plasterer and finisher and is building himself a new career in the construction industry. Community Safety Case Study – Matthew

Matthew was referred to the Community Safety project by his Offender Manager. He had worked since the age of 16, but having been in prison, felt that his chances of gaining employment would be reduced and he wanted to use this opportunity to “get back into a working environment”. In HMP Onley, Matthew had worked driving the fork lift trucks and was keen to gain employment in this field. Community Safety Case Study – Richard

Richard was referred to the Community Safety project from Apex. He had been unemployed for 2.5 years and despite completing voluntary work throughout this period, he feared going back into employment. Richard was placed into the City Parks where he took on two roles: Helping to maintain the city parks, but also looking after the plants within offices around Leicester. Welcome, Hannah!

Hannah Whiteley joined the Leicestershire Cares team in April this year as an additional Community Safety Coordinator alongside Dennis Sayer. Hannah is on a secondment from Leicestershire & Rutland Probation Trust. Prior to coming to Leicestershire Cares, she spent 4 years in the REACH project, supporting Service Users into education, training and employment.
