A Christmas Message
Festive Challenge bigger
It has been another busy year and one in which the world moved in many mysterious ways. We know that for too many people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland it was another year of inequality and exclusion, which is why the vital work we do alongside our many partners is so needed.

Over the last year we have supported thousands of children to think about how they might enter the workplace and supported others to develop the vital literacy and numeracy skills which are essential if you are going to get on in life.

We have supported ex-offenders, care leavers and homeless people to develop the skills and confidence to enable them to enter the world of work. Every time we get one person back into work, education or training it really does make a difference not only to them but to their families and the communities they live in.

We have supported numerous community groups, organised community collections and as I write we are in the process of completing a vast range of festive challenges that have brought joy and happiness across the county as well as building connections and understanding.

As a team we have had to deal with change some planned, some forced and the increasing challenges of operating against a background of cuts, competition and ever more restrictive, time limited payment by results by contracts. We have said good bye to some valued colleagues and welcomed new people into our team. We have forged new partnerships and developed new strands of work.

Despite all the challenges, we are strong and we have continued to do what we do best, “deliver quality projects” and that has enabled us to win funding, recruit new members and make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged and excluded people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

I have no doubt that the next year will throw up many challenges and new opportunities. I also know the key to our success will be our continued ability to work together as a team and to build partnerships. As we have shown throughout the year when we work together we really can make a difference.

We wish our members, placement providers, supporters, partners and volunteers a very Merry Christmas and we look forward to continuing to work with you all in 2018.
