Member Firms are Christmas Stars!

Our Leicestershire and Rutland member firms and their employee volunteers have taken part in a record number of Festive Challenges to make it a cracker of a Christmas for charities and community groups across the two counties.

The Festive Challenges have seen the volunteers put on parties, shopping trips and other treats for hundreds of people of all ages during November and December.

21 Festive Challenges have taken place this winter, beginning with volunteers from the University of Leicester helping at local charity Coping with Cancer’s fundraising Christmas Fair in Leicester.

The seasonal goodwill continued when employees from truck dealer Ford & Slater in Leicester helped with the logistics for the Winter Warmer Tea Dance. Workers from PepsiCo/Walkers Snackfoods put up the Christmas decorations at Leonard Cheshire Disability in Anstey and then planted fruit trees at Saffron Heath.

Staff from Gateley, Sytner Group Ltd, Grant Thornton and Hinckley & Rugby Building Society have all helped wrap children’s presents for the Toys on the Table charity and a  team of volunteers from Loughborough science business Thermo Fisher put up the tinsel at Leonard Cheshire Disability in Sileby.

Leicester plastics firm Nylacast sent a team to make the Home-Start Blaby Christmas party a festive celebration and Gateley’s lawyers provided a Karaoke Party for disability charity MOSAIC at the Tudor Centre in Mowmacre Hill.

Cambridge & Counties Bank in Leicester treated Age UK’s Orchid Wellbeing Group to a three course Christmas dinner. On the same day staff from the Amateur Swimming Association’s HQ in Loughborough took Leonard Cheshire Disability residents to do their Christmas Shopping at Fosse Park.

Office Depot, Topps Tiles and Blaby District Council all opened their doors and welcomed elderly guests from Age UK and B-Inspired to Christmas feasts, whilst CS Ellis took Age UK guests from Rutland out for a pub lunch and Access Group threw a party for children from the Glebe House charity in Shepshed.

And last, but by no means least, Ford & Slater helped B-Inspired with its Food Share scheme to redistribute surplus food to disadvantaged families and individuals during the Christmas week.

“Each year more volunteers from ever more businesses show they really do care at Christmas.

Hundreds of people will enjoy their hospitality, generosity and genuine seasonal warmth – it really does make Christmas a special time for everyone involved.”

Katharine Lightbown, Community Development Manager
