The fledgling business Leicester Sports 4 U has been given a helping hand by accountancy professionals from KPMG as their enterprise starts to grow.
The Sports 4 U directors include people who had an interest in sport and social enterprise. They leapt at the chance to run a small business providing coaching, training and sports camps to young people aged eight to 19 in their local neighbourhoods of Northfields, St Matthews and St Marks and spread throughout Leicester.
But as the venture has expanded its income, moving on from simply receiving grants to charging fees, the knowledge they need as directors has also grown. Having supported the venture for three years, KPMG again stepped in to help with training on company law, VAT, PAYE and accounts for a growing business.
Richard White is a youth worker and director of Leicester Sport 4 U. He said: “The training has been very informative and we now feel better prepared for the future. I’m a bit older than the other directors, who were young people of 16 and 17 when they started with us.
“The support KPMG has given us has been fantastic. To have that help during our start-up period has been excellent.”
Matt Buckingham, a director at KPMG, said: “It has been a privilege supporting such a good cause over the past three years and to see at first hand the real difference that they are making to the lives of many youngsters in the local Leicester community”.
KPMG are one of the founder members of Leicestershire and Rutland ProHelp through which the support has been brokered. ProHelp members provide free advice and expertise to not-for-profit groups across the city and county.
