Community Safety Case Study – Nathan

Nathan was referred to the Community Safety project at the start of this year. He had not worked since 2010, but in an interview stated, “I want to change my life. I want to support my kids and be a good father”.  Work placement options were discussed with Nathan and he was keen to develop his skills to gain a construction qualification to work on building sites.

Nathan was asked to prove his motivation through completing a placement with Leicester City Council Parks Team. This was done over a two week period. From this placement, Nathan received excellent feedback, where he was described as “Very hard working and just got on with tasks left”.

After this placement, Nathan attended a Level 1 Health and Safety training course, as well as the three mock tests which were a pre-requisite for Leicestershire Cares putting him forward to take his CSCS test, all of which were kindly funded by Blaby District Council.

Nathan excelled – Passing the CSCS test to gain his card. This allows him to work on building sites and an interview was set up for him with David Wilson Homes. It was agreed at this interview that he would complete a two week placement as a Labourer ending on the 13th March 2015. Once more, the feedback that Nathan received from David Wilson Homes was outstanding; “He worked well with others, always working with 100% effort and in a good time”.

David Wilson Homes were so impressed with Nathan’s working ethos that they offered him full time, paid employment as of the 16th March 2015 which Nathan happily accepted!
