Community Safety Case Study – Matthew

Matthew was referred to the Community Safety project by his Offender Manager. He had worked since the age of 16, but having been in prison, felt that his chances of gaining employment would be reduced and he wanted to use this opportunity to “get back into a working environment”.

In HMP Onley, Matthew had worked driving the fork lift trucks and was keen to gain employment in this field. He was therefore placed at Colton Packaging on the fork lift trucks and successfully completed the two weeks.

In his feedback of the placement, Matthew wrote, that his time at Colton Packaging had further reinforced his desire to do this type of work “1000%, I love driving fork lifts”.

Moreover, the feedback that Matthew received from the Company was glowing; Matthew “performed excellently on all tasks given”. Further evidence of his performance and motivation is the fact that Colton Packaging have offered him a further two weeks as Matthew has proven himself to be a dedicated team player and will further increase his employability by completing a second placement.
