Coat Drive 2014 – Share the Warmth

Leicestershire people are again being asked to donate warm coats to keep out the cold for local people in need this coming winter.

The second Leicestershire Cares Coat Drive is under way with collection points around the city, county and in Rutland where anyone can donate clean and gently-used coats in good condition and full working order.

The coats will be passed on to men, women and children – including the homeless – via 22 charities and voluntary groups across the county.

From now until September 19, people can donate winter coats at:

  • Seven branches of Hinckley & Rugby Building Society
  • The Market Harborough office of Vanilla Recruitment
  • Voluntary Action Leicestershire at Leicester’s Newarke Street
  • Voluntary Action Rutland in Oakham
  • Leicestershire Cares offices at Tower Street in Leicester

The donated coats will be sorted at Beaumont Shopping Centre, which is gifting use of a retail unit before the coats go to the charities and voluntary groups who will hand them onto people in need.

We are pleased to be part of such a good project, which will help people in need across Leicestershire this winter.”

Steve Goddard, Centre Deputy Manager

Alongside the public donations, 17 member businesses of Leicestershire Cares have volunteers collecting coats from staff. The firms taking part include Aurum, Nelsons Solicitors and the Amateur Swimming Association.

“We are thrilled this appeal is happening again this year. Many people that come to us are distressed about their circumstances. It is wonderful to have coats throughout the winter to offer people who often come to us very desperate for help.”

Sue Smout, Senior Manager at the Open Hands Trust and recipient organisation
