Brian Stein, chief executive of Melton food giant Samworth Brothers, has been appointed by Prince Charles as his East Midlands ambassador for a national business charity.

The Prince, who is president of Business in the Community, has given Mr Stein the role in recognition of his community work.

Mr Stein is already chairman of Leicestershire Cares, the county arm of Business in the Community.

The Prince said: "From leading pioneering work on the recruitment and development of migrant workers to working with local Cornish farmers to help them reintroduce wheat-growing in order to produce truly local Ginsters Cornish pasties, Brian has made a huge difference to the communities in which Samworth Brothers works."

The appointment was announced at the charity's East Midlands Awards for Excellence 2008 event, in Derby.
